Our Story | July 2019

May 2014
May Design Series is in its second year and appears to be going from strength to strength with an expanded show and a list of over 400 British and International funishing suppliers.
For us there were a few stand-out peices and companies that caught our attention across the show:
Rob, a runner up with the Judges' Choice award at NewDesignBritain retrospective, shows his Spring 2014 collection, called Brunel, which makes clever use of nooks and crannies below and behind, Brunel channels a host of influences including Robin Day and Clive Latimer’s mid-20th Century leaning mirror.

Justin Van Breda London designs furniture and lighting that is polished, sophisticated, charming and full of character; classic contemporary by design with a certain elegance and stature, he creates signature or transition pieces depending on where they are used which are glossy, rich, layered and detailed.

Some of the world's most beaufitul functional designer radiators created by a company that clearly has a sense of humour, pithy wordsmithing and a keen eye for design. Eskimo products have been designed and manufactured in the UK since 2003, with clean lines, stunning (award winning) metal finishes, and incredible heat output, thanks to their various aluminium extrusions.
We have been following the work of this charity Out of the Dark who help local disadvantaged young people steer away from crime. Out of the Dark, a charitable social enterprise that recycles, restores and revamps salvaged furniture as a means to train, educate and employ young people from disadvantaged backgrounds collaborates with a number of designers and manufacturers to create brand new collections of reupholstered and upcycled furniture.
The Teddy Bear Chair was the first Hans J. Wegner design produced at PP Møbler, a company that started in 1953, and it marked the beginning of a life-long passionate collaboration involving generations of craftsmen. For the Zekeboys this is our favourite: The Teddy Bear Chair remains the most exclusive piece of them all within the PP Møbler stable.
