May Design Series 2013

Wayne McMaster

May 2013

The May Design Series comprised: Interiors LDN, a nod to the best contemporary British and international designs in furniture and interiors, for those that didn't make Birmingham at the beginning of the year; DX, a celebration of design excellence; The ARC Show,  showcased some of the best architectural and decorative lighting; and kbb LDN, much smaller than in previous years, that brought together innovative design in the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom industries.

On entering Ab Roger's designed cityscape of angular planes, inspired by the graphic identity, Hitch | Mylius' new concept for public seating, the hm83 bench was displayed to great effect in the entrance space, linked together to form molecular, geometric arrangements that beautifully complimented Roger's overarching design layout for the show.

Pushing through, we were first presented with DX Freight: a collection of products, selected by industry editors – The Schemer curated items from Maison et Objet in Paris, Architonic chose those from imm Cologne, DX London highlighted the best products from Stockholm, and Blueprint put together items from Milan – all in plywood shipping containers.

For us there were a few stand-out peices that caught our attention across the show

2. Togo

Synonymous with elegance and innovation, Ligne Roset marked 40 years of Togo with a number of limited edition fabrics and patterns for their iconic sofa - including houndstooth and a floral print velvet jacquard. Designed by MICHEL DUCAROY as a seat cushion for an easy carefree way of life the Togo has been a one of their best-sellers since its launch in the early seventies.

3. Floral Cascades

Such beauty in a small contained space, however nothing could really compete with their full-scale bespoke sculptural commercial high-end lighting installations. Sharon Marston crafts a torrent of fibre optic filaments that create an explosion of light and texture.
